Functional Testing

Measuring Functional Strength and Performance

Functional testing provides objective, standardized measures of physical performance, strength, and mobility. These assessments are internationally recognized and used to identify functional limitations, predict frailty and functional decline, and track changes in physical capacity over time. Results support evidence-based decisions for prevention, rehabilitation, and performance optimization.

Functional Testing

At REACH Lab, we assess your functional abilities using a range of clinically validated tests that reflect real-world movement and daily activities. Our functional testing includes:

Timed Up and Go (TUG):

Measures how quickly you can rise from a chair, walk a short distance, turn, and sit back down. This test provides insight into mobility, balance, and fall risk.

6-Minute Walk Test (6MWT):

Assesses endurance and cardiovascular fitness by measuring the distance you can walk in six minutes, reflecting daily activity capacity.

Balance Assessment:

Evaluates your ability to maintain stability in different positions, helping identify areas of weakness that could impact safety and performance.

Sit-to-Stand Test:

Measures lower body strength and functional ability by counting how many times you can rise from a chair in a set period, important for independence and daily tasks.

Walking Speed:

A simple yet powerful indicator of overall health and mobility. Slower walking speed can signal decreased physical function or increased risk of future mobility issues.

These tests are used to identify strength, balance, and mobility limitations, guide personalized training or rehabilitation programs, and track progress over time. By understanding your functional performance, we help you improve safety, independence, and overall quality of life.
